Registration:
All Veterinary Technologists must be registered in the Province of Saskatchewan as an SAVT/SVMA Active member to work in a clinic as an RVT. Your SAVT and SVMA registration must be completed through the SVMA website.
*You may not use the title RVT or Veterinary Technologist or engage in the practise of Veterinary Technology in Saskatchewan without registration in both Associations.
Practise of Veterinary Technology - An individual is deemed to be practising veterinary technology when they:
a) represent oneself directly or indirectly, as engaging in the practise of veterinary technology, and/or
b) use any words or, letters of titles as to induce the belief that the individual using them is qualified to engage in the practise of veterinary technology and/or
c) provide professional medical care, monitor and treat animals, under the supervision of a veterinarian.

Student Membership
- Free to students enrolled in an accredited Animal Health Technology/Veterinary Technology program
- September 1 - August 31 membership year
- Must provide proof of enrollment
- Must transfer to Provisional or Active membership once graduated and working in a clinic
- Has 6 months from VTNE writing to register as an active member if not working in a clinic setting.
Provisional Membership
- Must have graduated from a CVMA/AVMA accredited Animal Health Technology/Veterinary Technology program in present year.
- Is pending the writing of; or confirmation of results of, the national exam as approved by the SVMA (Currently the VTNE)
Active Membership
- Must have graduated from a CVMA/AVMA accredited Animal Health Technology/Veterinary Technology program
- Has passed the national exam as approved by the SVMA (Currently the VTNE)
- Be an active member transferring from another province with no break in membership or must have written the VTNE within 3 years.
- Requires Documents to upload at application:
- official transcript directly sent from school or copy of your diploma signed by SVMA member/notary public
- copy of VTNE pass letter
- Letter of Standing from previous Associations
Short-Term Active Membership
All RVT's practicing Veterinary Medicine in the province of Saskatchewan must be on the SVMA/SAVT registrar. This includes volunteers for spay/neuter clinics or other volunteer initiatives. A short-term practice member is a registered veterinary technologist who is licensed to engage in the practice of veterinary medicine under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian for a period not exceeding 90 days total in any fiscal year. The short term licence is valid until December 31st in the year in which it is granted.
- Must have graduated from a CVMA/AVMA accredited Animal Health Technology/Veterinary Technology program
- Has passed the national exam as approved by the SVMA (Currently the VTNE)
- Must be a current active member in another province.
Social Membership
- Has Graduated from an Animal Health Technology/Veterinary Technology Program
- Is from out of Province and wants to keep up to date with SAVT
- Is retired or no longer working in a clinic setting (not recommended if planning to return to work in a clinic setting)
SAVT Membership Withdrawal Form

- inform SAVT that you will not be renewing membership
- no longer wish to hold a membership with SAVT
